Scroggs SIT Information for Public Use Document (Updated Sept. 2025)

The Scroggs Elementary School Improvement Team (SIT) is a state-mandated organization comprising Scroggs staff and elected parents/guardians. We aim to "develop and implement a school improvement plan to strengthen student performance.” The SIT is responsible for:

Developing, reviewing, and implementing the School Improvement Plan.
Approving the annual capital and operational budget requests to the district and school board.
Serving as an advisory group to the principal and providing input on issues such as school climate, safety, and programs.
Gathering input from our school community and hearing concerns of families, community members, and staff about school programs.

Can I attend a SIT meeting or share a suggestion for school improvement to the SIT?

All meetings are open to the public and there is a public comment portion at the beginning of each meeting. Families, community members, and staff are encouraged to attend any SIT meeting and give suggestions/comments. You can communicate directly with an individual on the team or send a suggestion to the entire committee by completing the School Improvement Team Feedback Form. The SIT strives to use a process that involves and informs all school community members in school improvement. The SIT will listen to suggestions/comments, then research and discuss potential solutions as a group, and then share your questions and responses on our site.

How is the SIT different from the PTA?

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is open to the school community for general membership, is governed by parents, and works to support goals created by the school, mainly through fundraising efforts. The SIT is an elected school committee required by NC State law and includes school administrators, teachers, staff, parents/legal guardian, and students (in the middle and high schools). Elected members serve on the SIT committee for two-year terms and participate in the monthly meetings.
